The Kershaw Iridium lineup is built around DuraLock, Kershaw's crossbar lock. Pull the bar back and the blade swings closed, with no fingers in the blade path and no pinch risk from a liner lock. It works the same for either hand, and KVT ball bearings make the action notably smooth. The family runs from compact folders to USA made autos, and it has become the breakout modern platform in the full line of Kershaw knives.
The standard Iridium carries a 3.4 inch blade and closes to 4.5 inches. The new Iridium 3038 is made in the USA with a 3.45 inch two tone MagnaCut spear point, black G-10, and a button lock in place of DuraLock. The Launch Iridium is the automatic version, made in the USA as part of the Launch series with a 3.45 inch MagnaCut blade.
The Mini Iridium shrinks the pattern to a 3 inch D2 blade, 3.9 inches closed, at 2.5 ounces, the same DuraLock and KVT action in a lighter frame. It comes in black spear point, bronze BlackWash, ice blue with gold accents, and reverse tanto builds. The newest version leaves the folder behind: the Mini Iridium 1051 is a compact fixed blade with a 3.1 inch D2 blade and black linen Micarta handle.
Most manual Iridiums run D2, a wear resistant tool steel with good edge retention that needs a little care to keep rust off. The Launch Iridium and Iridium 3038 run CPM MagnaCut for toughness and corrosion resistance, and premium folders step up to M390 on the carbon fiber Iridium or S35VN on the titanium Iridium. Spear points handle everyday cutting, while the reverse tanto adds tip strength. Our knife steel guide compares them all.
Anodized aluminum keeps weight down in gray, black, bronze, olive, and ice blue. The Launch Iridium G10 adds G-10 scales over aluminum for grip, and carbon fiber and titanium round out the premium end, all covered in our guide to knife handle materials. Most manual models are designed in the USA and built overseas, while the Launch Iridium and Iridium 3038 are made in the USA, and every folder carries a reversible deep carry clip.
